Winding down for 2008

2008-11-10 — posted by at 23:11

Well as the year winds down the staff have asked me to remind you of a few things still yet to come.

Sunday the 16th the exhibition ends. If you had special framing, and delivered/hung your own work you are required to do the same when it comes to packing up. I still need a few more responses from people who are helping with the loading and delivery of work back to Hawthorn.

Film night is on very soon, come along on the 18th of November at 6:00pm, and see what films other students made.

Awards/Presentation night

On the 25th of November also from 6:00pm. historically there is a BBQ, and lot’s and lot’s of awards and laughs, so come along, bring your family and friends, if you’re game. Second years this is going to be the last time we will congregate, so I’m looking to forward a *special* night.

PIC’s Annual Open Day

This Sunday is Open day at PIC photographic imaging college. Like many of the other tertiary institutions around town, we have a day where the school is open to allow potential visitors to wander through and ask questions. We also like to add to the experience for the visitors by having a few students around working in the studios and digital darkroom etc. If you are interested we are open from 12:00 to 4:00 and you can process film, scan, work in the studios or with photoshop. We ask however to check with a staff memeber such as Mick or one of the other teachers on staff first. There is also a booking sheet in the staff room, again see a member of the teaching staff to confirm.

Gallery Crawl

Next Monday the staff are going to Bendigo for the day to see this exhibition ‘A Moment In Time’ Portraits from the 1990’s by Francis Reiss. Francis, is photojournalist and has photographed many places around the world. We hope to get him to come to pic soon to talk to you about his work and life.

So if you want to tag along, we are catching the train from Southern Cross station to Bendigo, the staff are meeting at the station at 7:30, to catch the 7:48 to Bendigo. We will spend a few hours in the gallery and then have luch, possibly shoot around Bendigo for a few hours then head home.

Canberra Trip

The Canberra Trip is going ahead. There will be a meeting this Thursday at PIC, probably around lunchtime. Places will be limited, so the first 10 students with a $50.00 will be going. Gayle and I are going to drive a small bus up. We will be staying at the YHA in Canberra, the dates will the 4th of September to the 8th of September. All accommodation food and transport provided. Every day we will visit several exhibitions. And spend some time shooting in and around Canberra.

A reminder, I will be at PIC from roughly 10:00am onwards today. If I’m late don’t worry I won’t be far away. I am hoping to get some work finished in the Den of Apollo today, so there will a slightly limited number of computers available in that room. The East Wing on the other hand is fully operational.
